Orthotics for the thumb are primarily used to reduce pain and provide support to the joint. Pain in the thumb joint makes everyday tasks very difficult however by using a thumb orthotic the thumb can be placed into a more functional position to alleviate the pain. We are able to provide both stock and bespoke thumb orthotics which are made to the specific shape of your thumb and hand.

What is the process to be receive a thumb orthoses?

The process to receive an thumb orthoses would be:

  • Assessment
  • Measuring / Casting
  • Fitting
  • Review

Our experienced orthotists will complete an assessment to establish the best orthoses to support your thumb. They will look at the level of function you currently have, any pain you experience and what you hope your thumb orthotic will achieve. Your orthotist will then take a series of measurements and if appropriate a cast of your thumb and hand. This will then be used to make your orthoses. Once your thumb orthoses has been manufactured your orthotist will fit the device and provide you information about wearing the orthoses.
