Static hand orthoses can be used for positioning, support and immobilisation. What is the process to be receive a hand orthoses?

The process to receive a hand orthoses would be:

  • Assessment
  • Measuring / Casting
  • Fitting
  • Review

To receive a hand orthoses your orthotist will complete an assessment which will observe your function and range of motion at your hand and wrist. Your orthotist will then be able to advise about the most appropriate device for your needs. Once the device has been selected measurements will be taken and if required a cast will be taken. On fitting the device your orthotist will ensure correct fit and that the device is comfortable, any adaptations can then be made as required.
