Our custom AFOs are made bespoke to your requirements and can be designed and constructed using a range of different materials. There are many different designs of AFOs and our experienced orthotists will be able to provide the best solution for you.
Custom made DAFO (Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthoses) provide support of the ankle and foot by holding the foot in a more functional position. The materials used enable you to flex your foot as you walk whilst still supporting your foot in its position.
We are able to provide custom made SMO (supramalleolar orthosis), they provide an increased level of support compared to insoles and footwear however do not extend high up the calf instead finishing just above the ankle bones.
The Richie Brace is a custom made brace which combines a bespoke footplate with articulated side uprights to provide stability and support whilst allowing free flexion movement of the ankle. The device can be adapted to further restrict movement if required.
The process to receive a Stability AFO would be:
In order for you to receive the best Stability AFO for you, you will need to meet with one of our orthotists who will complete an in depth assessment looking specifically at your gait and range of movement at your foot and ankle. Following this they will take a number of different measurements to ensure the correct sized device is selected. If the orthotist advises a bespoke device they will then need to take a plaster cast impression of your foot and leg. This will then be used to make the bespoke AFO.
