Dynamic Ankle Foot Orthotics or DAFOs help to hold your foot in a more functional position. The brace is custom made and provides a close fit to your foot and ankle to ensure your foot is placed in the correct alignment. The materials used in the construction of a DAFO enable you to flex your foot and improve your walking pattern whilst remaining comfortable. DAFOs provide an increased level of support and stability when compared with orthopaedic footwear and can be worn discreetly within a wide range of footwear options. We are able to provide a range of different DAFOs depending on your requirements.

What are the indications for use of a DAFO?

There are many indications for using a DAFO. These include:

  • Supination of the foot
  • Pronation of the foot
  • Misalignment of the foot
  • High or low tone in the legs and feet

What is the process to be receive a DAFO?

The process to receive a DAFO would be:

  • Assessment
  • Measuring / Casting
  • Fitting
  • Review

All of our DAFOs are custom made and constructed to meet your specific requirements. To ensure the brace provides the maximum support required our experienced orthotists will complete a full assessment observing your walking pattern and discussing your needs and difficulties. Your orthotist will then take a series of measures and a cast of your foot and ankle. This will then be used to construct your bespoke DAFO. Placement of soft pads will provide comfort to enable you to wear your DAFO all day.
